Why I Chose a Tummy Tuck After Years of Thinking About It

A few months ago, I had a tummy tuck at Soon Plus Plastic Surgery with Dr. Soon Dong Kim, and looking back, the experience was very different from what I expected.

Like many people, I initially thought a tummy tuck was mainly about appearance. For me, the real issue was the loose skin and stretched abdominal area that remained even after losing weight. No matter how much I exercised, certain changes just wouldn’t improve.

Before surgery, I spent a lot of time researching and reading other people’s experiences. My biggest concern wasn’t the procedure itself—it was whether the result would look natural and whether the recovery would be worth it.

During my consultation, Dr. Kim explained what could realistically be achieved and what couldn’t. I appreciated that there were no exaggerated promises. The goal was improvement, not perfection.

Recovery definitely required patience. The first couple of weeks were challenging, and I had to remind myself that healing takes time. There were moments when I questioned whether I was progressing normally, but as the swelling gradually decreased, I started to see the changes.

What surprised me most wasn’t the flatter abdomen. It was how much more comfortable I felt in everyday situations. I stopped worrying about how certain clothes fit, and I became less self-conscious about my midsection.

The result didn’t make me look like a different person. Instead, it felt like my body reflected the effort I had already put into improving my health. That was something I hadn’t expected to feel so strongly.

If anyone is considering a tummy tuck, my advice would be to focus on realistic expectations. It’s not an instant transformation, and recovery is an important part of the journey. But for me, it ended up being one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve made for myself.

Of course, everyone’s experience is different, but this was my personal experience with Dr. Soon Dong Kim and the team at Soon Plus Plastic Surgery.
