Prostate Conditions: A Simple Overview of Common Issues in Men

Prostate conditions are health problems that affect the prostate gland, a small organ located below the bladder that helps control urine flow and supports reproductive function. These conditions are especially common in older men and often show up through urinary symptoms.

The most frequent condition is benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause weak urine stream, frequent urination, and difficulty emptying the bladder. Another condition is prostatitis, which is inflammation of the prostate and may lead to pain, burning during urination, or pelvic discomfort. A more serious condition is prostate cancer, where abnormal cells grow in the prostate and may not cause symptoms in early stages.

Because these conditions can have similar symptoms, proper medical evaluation such as PSA testing and clinical examination is important for correct diagnosis and treatment.
