Double eyelid surgery is a commonly performed procedure designed to create or define an upper eyelid crease. However, not every patient has the same eyelid anatomy, and in some cases, the inner corner of the eye may also influence the overall appearance of the eyelids.
Upper epicanthoplasty focuses on the epicanthal fold at the inner corner of the eyes. When considered together with double eyelid surgery, the goal is to create a balanced appearance while taking the patient’s existing eyelid structure, skin, crease position, and facial proportions into account.
From a clinical perspective, these procedures should not be approached as a one-size-fits-all treatment. During consultation, factors such as eyelid thickness, asymmetry, existing crease, epicanthal fold, and the desired crease design are evaluated before determining whether combining the procedures is appropriate.
What can patients expect?
Recovery varies depending on the surgical technique and individual healing. Temporary swelling, bruising, tightness, and changes in crease appearance can occur during the early recovery period. The final appearance generally becomes clearer as postoperative swelling gradually decreases.
