After surgical removal of a lipoma, is it possible for the lipoma to recur? What factors increase the likelihood of recurrence, such as incomplete excision, size or location of the lipoma, genetic predisposition, or other underlying health conditions?
In most cases, surgical removal of a lipoma is curative, and recurrence is infrequent. The primary cause of recurrence is residual tumor tissue left behind during surgery. Lipomas that are large, deep, or located near vital structures may pose a higher risk. Genetic conditions can contribute to the development of additional lipomas rather than true recurrence.
