Oral and maxillofacial surgery seems to cover a wide range of treatments and I’m trying to understand what situations usually lead to it. What are some common conditions where this kind of surgery is actually required?
I needed oral and maxillofacial surgery because of a jaw alignment issue. It was affecting how I chewed and even causing some jaw pain. The process took time, including planning and recovery, but it made a huge difference. The first few weeks after surgery were tough, mostly due to swelling and adjusting to the new bite. But once everything settled, eating became easier, and the discomfort I used to have was gone.
Mine was for a severely infected tooth that couldn’t be saved with a root canal. It started as mild pain but got worse over time. The surgery sounded scary, but it was actually pretty manageable. The relief afterward made it worth it, especially once the infection cleared.
