How long does the surgery take, and what type of anesthesia will be used?

I’m trying to better understand what to expect from the procedure—could you tell me approximately how long the surgery usually takes from start to finish? Also, what kind of anesthesia is typically used during the operation (for example, local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia), and how is that decision made for each patient.

When my mother went in for her procedure, the doctors informed us that the surgery would take roughly 2 hours. They used general anesthesia so she would be fully unconscious during the process. I remember the nurse explaining everything clearly beforehand, saying they would also give her medication through an IV to keep her relaxed before putting her to sleep. We were nervous, but the clarity about the timing and anesthesia really helped us prepare mentally.
